Moate Ward

Moate is a 31-bed acute medical/high dependency unit, specialising in respiratory illnesses. This is a step-down unit from Coronary Care and has telemetry monitoring. The ward consists of four 6-bed bays, one 3-bed bay and four single rooms. The single rooms are used for isolation purposes or they can be allocated as private rooms, when available. Our aim is to meet the needs of our patients to the best of our ability.

Moate Ward accepts admissions from A&E, transfers from other wards in Naas Hospital and transfers from other hospitals such as St James’s Hospital, Beaumont Hospital and the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, to name a few. Ward organisation and administration of nursing services is delivered using team nursing. The Roper, Logan and Tierney model of Nursing Care is used to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients’ needs and subsequent requests. Family and relatives are actively encouraged to participate in the patient’s treatment programme.
The ward caters for student nurses from both Trinity College Dublin and Moore Abbey. We also afford valuable experience to those interested in the medical and nursing professions by providing placement programmes for both pre-nursing students and transition students from local schools around Kildare.
Ward staff are active participants in the various hospital committees and regularly update their knowledge and practice through study days.
